Clan Shield's PR team member Jacque Shellacque here to bring you an exclusive interview with Apdo !
Jacque Shellacque: Apdo , congratulations on a blistering start. Two weeks into the circuit with Clan Shield, you’re sitting at a 2,059 Elo, and carrying an 8-3 record with winning records across every single matchup. How does it feel to hit the ground running like this?
Apdo : It feels great, honestly. When you put the time into the build orders and the training drills, you hope it shows up on match day. Going 8-3 across all three matchups proves the fundamentals are solid. Though every time I siege up against a Protoss deathball, my blood pressure still spikes like I’m in a qualifier final.
Jacque Shellacque: Let’s talk about your history with the game. You’ve got a bit of an unusual origin story compared to some of the players in the league.
Apdo : (Laughs) Yeah, the timing of my life is comical. When I was about six or seven years old, I fell completely in love with Brood War. I was learning hotkeys, watching replays, thinking I was going to be the next Lightning(who won My Little Pony ISL)... and right as I really got hooked, the competitive scene basically folded. I spent years holding onto this game like an ancient relic, wondering if I'd ever get to play it on a big stage. Then the revival happened, the league kicked off, and suddenly I’m twenty and finally getting my shot. The universe made me wait thirteen years, so I'm not taking a single match for granted.
Jacque Shellacque: Speaking of being twenty, in esports years, that practically makes you the league’s resident elder statesman compared to some of the teenage prodigies on the circuit. Do you feel that age difference?
Apdo : Every day when I look at the skrimish reports and replays! Some of these kids have reaction speeds that look like they’re running on pure caffeine and fiber optics. But being one of the older guys in the league gives me a different perspective. I remember what it was like looking up to the pros when I was a kid. I want to be a role model for the younger players coming into the circuit—show them that consistency, mental resilience, and respecting your opponents matter just as much as raw APM.
Jacque Shellacque: You’re heading into Round 3 of the Starleague qualifiers this Saturday. What are your expectations for that run, and what are your goals for the rest of the season with Shield?
Apdo : For the Starleague qualifiers, the goal is simple: survive Saturday, lock down a spot in the main bracket, and make a deep playoff run. I didn't wait thirteen years just to get knocked out in the qualifiers. For team play with Shield, we want to prove we’re contenders. As long as I keep laying down solid siege lines, keeping my win rate positive across all three matchups, and setting a good pace for the team, we’re going to be a tough out for anyone this season.
Jacque Shellacque: Thank you for your time Apdo ! Good luck with the rest of the season and Starleague!
Apdo I will give it my best, thank you!
