The final 4. Two Protosses. Two Zergs. One chance at glory. In many ways it had to be PvZ.
At this point, as was expected, Terrans have no one left to carry their banner any further.
We will have the same matchup in the ISL final as Shakuras had in its initial final - but the journeys to get here have been unique. Let’s break down the 2 semi-finals.
Match 1
#6 Dribb10r 2,152 (52.4% vP)
Form: ✅✅❌✅✅❌✅✅✅✅
#26 LBF Sigmamaxxing 2,162 (76.9% vP)
Form: ✅✅✅❌✅✅❌❌✅✅
A clash of the 2 players who have played the most games this season, both in the top 10 Elo rankings.PvP is a hugely volatile matchup and Dribb10r will be hoping to lean on that so that his main advantage, his game sense, can get him into the final. LBF Sigmamaxxing came into this tournament as a much lower seed and has slightly worse form recently, but has been crushing the PvP matchup with his really excellent fundamentals. 🦆 Lady Esquire gave LBF Sigmamaxxing a scare last round which will give Dribb10r even more reasons to be hopeful.
Neither player has lit up the PvZ matchup but both will back themselves to go all the way.
Match 2
#3 )BuSa. Nitro 2,205 (88.9% vZ)
Form: ✅❌✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
#2 Solid.Julundur 2,225 (85.7% vZ)
Form: ❌✅✅✅✅✅✅✅❌✅
WOW. Another symmetry. If the Protosses are the epitome of experience then the Zergs are the embodiment of pure mechanical ability. These 2 players currently occupy the top 2 spots of the rankings, 2 of the 4 players who have ever had an Elo of over 2,200 and both are absolutely electric in the matchup and in their current form. Both will feel massive favourites in the final looking at their vP stats. At 19 and 20 years old both will want to win now, this might be their best chance.
This one is truly too tough to call but I’m starting to be converted to believe in )BuSa. Nitro as our future champion.
Good luck to all the competitors as we move into the final section of the ISL.
