Coronation or Upset? High-Stakes PvP Finals Set to Crown Junior Starleague Champion
by SageBow for The Longbow Chronicle [TLC]
The stage is set for a grand finale in the Shakuras Reborn Junior Starleague. Two of the scene's most promising young Protoss prodigies, 14 year old Cuzco [LBB] and 13 year old [JG] Phone are set to collide in a grueling Best-of-7 series for the JSL title.
Beyond the trophy, this match represents a battle of destinies: the anointed heir to a top tier powerhouse versus the scrappy underdog out to prove that talent knows no pedigree.
Entering the tournament, Cuzco carried the weight of high expectations. Hailing from
Little Buff Boys, an academy backed by a Proleague organization, Cuzco has long been tipped as the next big star. Armed with top of the line coaching and structured development, his run to the finals feels like the realization of an inevitable coronation.
On the other side of the stage stands Phone. Hailing from Jjig's Guys, an academy attached to a League 2.2 club, Phone has had to build his name without the elite facilities or prestige enjoyed by his opponent. Yet, the 13 year old star has torn through the bracket with a swagger and precision that can no longer be ignored. For Phone, a victory here is the ultimate validation, proving he belongs at the very top of the scene.
Despite their parallel rise, this will mark the first ever official head-to-head match between the two players, leaving no past history to predict who will break first under the spotlight.
The Road to the Finals
Cuzco
R32 - defeats JPHS Input 2-1
R16 - defeats Valois [LBB] 2-0
Quarterfinals - defeats Cobra [GAY] 3-2
Semifinals - defeats Major 3-2
Phone
R32 - defeats Fraction 2-1
R16 - defeats Gleason [FWD] 2-0
Quarterfinals - defeats Karachi [Enrgy⚡] 3-1
Semifinals - defeats )BuSa. Hotly 3-0
Both players kicked off their campaigns with tough 2–1 wins in the mirror matchup before showing off their versatility. However, their paths diverged dramatically in the pressure cooker environment of the elimination rounds.
Cuzco had to battle through two grueling 3–2 thrillers against Zerg opponents Cobra and Major, showing remarkable resilience in clutch, full-length series.
Phone, by contrast, has been an absolute bulldozer. He dismantled Karachi 3–1 before delivering a terrifying 3–0 sweep against Major's fellow Zerg powerhouse, Hotly, in the semifinals. Phone enters the finals sitting on an astounding 82% overall win rate (27–6) and a staggering 78% win rate in PvP (7–2).
Tactical Matchup: Mechanical Might vs. Tactical Harassment
Looking strictly at the attributes, Phone holds a distinct mechanical edge with an 8 Micro and 7 Macro compared to Cuzco's 6 Micro and 5 Macro. In standard Protoss vs. Protoss mid to late game engagements, Phone’s raw mechanical speed makes him a formidable opponent.
To claim the championship, Cuzco must leverage his slight advantage in Harassment (5 vs 4). If Cuzco allows Phone to sit back, build a war chest, and clash in straight up deathball fights, Phone's macro engine and unit control are likely to prevail. Cuzco’s best path to victory lies in early game disruption, using sharp shuttle drops, Dark Templar tactics, and multi-prong raids to break Phone's concentration before he can settle into a groove.
Map Pool Outlook
In a Best-of-7, map picks will play a massive role in dictating the pace:
Short & Volatile Maps (Destination, Butter): With high rush scores, these two spawn maps leave little room for error. Cuzco can capitalize here with early proxy tech or aggressive timing attacks to bypass Phone’s late game strength.
Macro Heavies (Wind and Cloud, Aztec): Maps featuring long rush distances and high complexity heavily favor Phone. Wind and Cloud (Macro 66, Complex 88) will give Phone the space he needs to flex his 7 Macro and out-produce Cuzco.
Balanced Battlegrounds (Circuit Breaker, New Bloody Ridge, Requiem): Standard macro maps where tactical positioning and army movement will determine who blinks first.
Verdict
Cuzco has proven he can survive tight, high pressure series, and his top tier academy background means he will enter with a razor sharp game plan. But Phone comes into this final riding an undeniable wave of momentum. With superior micro, relentless macro, and dominant PvP stats, the 13 year old phenom looks primed to pull off the ultimate ascension.
Prediction: [JG] Phone wins 4–2 to claim the Junior Starleague Championship.
