Violet ISL Round of 8
by unknown · 2012-12-10
I decided to spend my time unwisely, and instead of studying, its time for ISL Ro8 write-up baby! This ISL is balls out insano, with Zerg super domination, spear-headed by HidE . The King is the last representative of Protoss, while Xello is accompanied by 1 as the Terran hopes. With BIRDMAN and TORRES watching from the underworld where eliminated players are placed, we shall
see if anyone can dethrone the Butcher.

* HidE (80.2% vT) vs 1 (78.8% vZ)
All Time Series : Never Played
An epic clash of two incredible players; HidE vs 1 . The Butcher is definitely the favorite here, not just riding the wave of Zerg domination, but leading the surge. 1 , the newest member of the $1000 salary club (stop complaining about the moneys Hatred ) is the Terran superstud awaiting HidE . Looking over at the maps though, 3 of the 5 maps are not favorable for TvZ, stacking the odds against 1 . That, and it is HidE , and he's already had his fluke of the tournament when he dropped one game to TORRES .
Prediction : HidE 3 - 0 1
* Kolll (71.1% vZ) vs Mafia Zerg (67.8% vZ)
All Time Series : Never Played
Are you kidding me? The only mirror match up of the round brings 2 of the top 4 Zergs against each other, CMCS2 silver medalist Kolll facing off against ISL7 silver medalist Mafia Zerg . This is one of the many match ups this round that is deserving of a finals, quite an improvement for our young game. Now on to the players, Kolll can still be considered somewhat shaky for LAN tournaments, as he's yet to live up to his hype in ISL play. Mafia Zerg is proven, as he defeated BIRDMAN last season in the Ro4. However, in a straight skill vs skill match up, I'd have to give the edge to Kolll . Don't count out Mafia Zerg , he won't go down without a fight.
Prediction : Kolll 3 - 2 Mafia Zerg
* Xello (76.2% vZ) vs Hatred (57.5% vT)
All Time Series : Never Played
Another series where, like every match up this round, each competitor has yet to face the other in official match play. The Birdhunter was expecting another epic Xello vs BIRDMAN match up, but Hatred ruined those plans with a huge 2-1 over the Birdjwa. Unfortunately for our Blungus Zerg, he faces off against a long time superb TvZer, who has really hit a peak as of late, being the highest rated Terran according to ELO, and second highest according to Sespa. As true as the saying of "Zerg imba" goes, Xello is in the elite category with his teammate Kolll , and I just feel Hatred still does not have what it takes to bust into becoming a championship contender yet. Hatred is by no means a bad player though, and beating BIRDMAN is no easy feat. Both players will give all they have.
Prediction : Xello 3 - 1 Hatred
* Nal_rA (66.2% vZ) vs Badger (79.2% vP)
All Time Series : Never Played
Boom goes the dynamite. In a round of highlight battles, The King vs the Other Half of NB's tag team will be an absolute war. Nal_rA brings in an incredible 14 game win streak, but Badger has an absolutely godlike 21 game streak. One of these streaks will have to end in this clash, but the victor will have all the momentum in the world to catapult themselves into eternal fame and glory in the championship match. Nal_rA has the game stacked against him because it is PvZ, but the King has had various victories over top notch Zergs lately, including Hatred , CrazyHydra , TORRES , and ZooSky . His last major series loss was to Kolll , but following the pattern of HidE >Kolll >Badger >Mafia Zerg , the Protoss hope has more than a chance to win. If any Protoss can do it, it is Nal_rA . Badger hasn't dropped a single game of ZvP since losing to Reach back in March. In this heavyweight match up, my head tells me Badger , but my heart tells me Nal_rA . With a victory here, Badger will have played the villain's part, as he will have knocked out two fan favorites in a row, with his 2-0 set against TORRES last week. For Nal_rA , victory assures that Protoss will be represented in the Round of 4 of the Violet ISL, and that the Legend of the King grows. Here's to hoping this isn't a 3-0 stomp.
Prediction : Nal_rA 3 - 2 Badger

Firstly, thanks to VaultDweller for filling in for me last week <3 Also, I would like to publicly thank Ascent for making such a fun and exciting tournament. Everyone that didn't participate is really missing out, except you Infernokoi. Sorry your players were forgotten <3 Shout-out to all the managers that participated in the Interviews last week, I thoroughly enjoyed reading them and doing them. Good luck to all in the next round. I know I was incredibly biased on that last one, but what can I say, PROTOSS FIGHTINGGGG!
